Chiropractic Care and ADHD: What the Research Actually Shows
If you are a parent of a child with ADHD, you have likely heard a wide range of claims about what can help, some backed by evidence and some not. We want to be direct with you: chiropractic care is not a treatment for ADHD, and no chiropractor can promise it will change a diagnosis or replace guidance from your child’s pediatrician or care team.
What chiropractic care does address is nervous system function. The nervous system is the communication network for the entire body, including the brain, and physical stress on the spine, whether from birth, falls, poor posture, or repetitive strain, can affect how that communication happens. Some parents of children with ADHD report improvements in focus, sleep, and overall regulation after starting chiropractic care, and there is emerging research exploring the connection between nervous system function and attention regulation. That research is still developing, and we will not overstate what it shows.
What we can offer is an objective, measurable look at your child’s nervous system function through our CLA INSiGHT scan. This is not a diagnostic tool for ADHD. It is a way to see how your child’s nervous system is functioning so that we can determine whether gentle chiropractic care is appropriate, and to track any changes over time.
If you are exploring every reasonable option to support your child, we are glad to have an honest conversation about what chiropractic care can and cannot do. Schedule a consultation and scan, and we will walk you through exactly what we find and what to expect.
